MY NEW TOY

Call Richard Simmons and get the fork lift ready! If all goes as planned in five short years, I will weigh about 800 pounds and need fireman to cut a hole in the wall to carry me out. The cause of these glorious events--my new 201 channel digital video cable! After years of hearing about this promised cable love-a-rama, my new provider, Adelphia, has delivered the goods. Two Hundred and One Big Ones! I might as well give up the pretense of living a productive life and resign myself to being a ward of the TV state.

This just happened yesterday, but like a rock in a still pond the ripples are being felt in the distant...uh...distant, let's see...distant part of the pond. See, the ability to use similes have already left and vowels will be next. But, that is a small price to pay for the 12 HBO, 10 Showtime, and best of all, 8 Skinamaxs! They have both the East Coast and West Coast feeds, so last night I was able to see the end of Sex Club Love 2, knowing that in an hour the west coast feed would start and all the pertinent plot points of SCL 2 that I had missed, would be perfectly clear. A long way from the days of 4 channels.

But, that is just the beginning! There are over 40 channels of near CD quality music. I am currently listening to the Folklorica channel. It stinks, but it is mine! I am still trying to figure out the difference between the Brazilian Pop and Brazilian Beats, but the day is young and my life is long.

I am torn between watching the Outdoor Life Channel or the plain ole' Outdoor Channel. And I hate the outdoors! There is the Do-It-Yourself Channel, though I would prefer the Do-It-For-Me Channel. The Golf Channel, Speedvision, beaucoup of sports channels...life is good.

The main downside is that I have yet to find a TV Guide that covers all my new channels and I know I am missing great stuff on the Game Show Network (love that Gene Rayburn RIP), while I watch The Filipino Channel. Who will step up and correct this injustice? Where are Henry Fords and Thomas Alva Edisons when their country needs them? I need my Telemundo Internacional listing now!

One troublesome aspect though, it has only been 24 hours, but I am beginning to think that there might be such a thing as too many channels. I am getting that same feeling I had after eating a whole bag of red vine licorice on a church trip and was bound up for the last half of the Carter administration. I will explore this feeling at a later date. After I watch the Inspirational Life Channel's animal savers marathon and put every fast food delivery service on my speed dial. (All right, you nailed me. They already were on my speed dial)
